Municipal Waste Lay Down the Debauchery

MWDSC_5979The Nov. 28 thrash metal show headlined by Richmond, Va.’s Municipal Waste at The Warehouse began in an unusual but sensual fun way. Opening up for the bands were Calgary’s Kabuki Guns Burlesque (KGB) troupe. Bunny Bunnotzi, Lacy Gunsmoke Dusty Tops, Lacy Gunsmoke and Daisy DeVille treated the audience to their unique sets of saucy striptease.

Toronto, Ont.’s Cauldron are a very impressive NWOBHM band. Not only do these guys look the part, they play it very well. The set was tight and the crowd went nuts for “Chained Up In Chains,” dedicated to the girls at the show. Another noteworthy song played off their latest album Chained to the Nite was “Dreams Die Young.”

DFA from Saskatchewan introduced themselves as the “low rent version of Municipal Waste.” This was the group’s second time in Calgary, and they seemed to have quite a fan base here already. The violently themed lyrics of songs like “Fight Club” and “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark” drove the pit throughout their set. They invited a friend, Derek, up to help on vocals for their last song. Derek jumped up on stage in his underwear for “the male burlesque portion of the evening.” But I have to say, the KGB’s teasing was much more pleasing.

Municipal Waste walked on stage… for the most part. Vocalist Tony Foresta was carried up on stage by one of The Warehouse’s bouncers to everyone’s amusement. The moment they launched into their first song incited a riot with the crowd. From stage diving to circle pits to some neck wrenching headbanging, the band infected everyone in attendance with their fun-filled energy. Some notable songs off the set list were “Masked by Delirium,” “Born to Party” and “Headbanger Face Rip.” For all their hilarity and debauchery, Municipal Waste were a tight band, ripping through their songs flawlessly.
