We Found the Body in Red Deer

Written by Pamela Porosky 1 November 2009 No Comment

WFTBIMG_9547We Found the Body is one of those bands that never disappoint, no matter where they perform, or how many people are in the crowd. Their Oct. 9 show in Red Deer, Alta. at Cheers North was no exception.

Red Deer’s Cain & Abel quietly opened the show with an original half hour acoustic set. Not what you’d expect at a show promoted as “a night of metal mayhem,” but the duo, armed only with guitars and vocals, was a fitting and well-received choice nonetheless.

Of Thorn and Vine came up next and, although they’d experienced some line-up changes as of late, managed to get the job done. While obvious the four-piece is still trying to find that chemistry bands are always seeming to talk about, and maybe replace a few of those covers with originals, it’s also clear that if they keep at it, we’ll be hearing a lot more about them in the future.

Local faves Awkward Silence really got the crowd going with songs off their recent release Little Ineffectual Nothing before Calgary’s We Found the Body shut down the bar. By this time, much of the venue had cleared out because of the time, but the band played hard and those that had the energy to stay seemed also to find the energy to keep up with the musicians on stage.
